Professor Leonard Gross has testified as an expert witness on cases involving legal ethics and legal malpractice. He has testified in state and federal court in many states on issues such as conflicts of interest, breach of fiduciary duty and attorneys’ fees. He has also testified in class actions.

Leonard Gross is a Professor Emeritus of Southern Illinois University School of Law. He joined the faculty in 1983, first as an Assistant Professor and later as an Associate Professor before becoming a Professor of Law in 1993. Before coming to SIU, Professor Gross clerked for Judge Frederick L. Brown of the Massachusetts Appeals Court from 1976 to 1977,and practiced corporate litigation with the New York City law firm of Shearman & Sterling from 1977 to 1983.

Professor Gross received his B.A. from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1973, where he majored in history. He received his J.D., Magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law in 1976.

Professor Gross is the author or co-author of the following books: Remedies: Damages, Equity and Restitution (LexisNexis, 4th. ed., 2009) (with Sebert, Thompson and Robertson); Organizing Corporate and Other Business Enterprises (LexisNexis 2000) (with M. Lee and D. Meyers); Supreme Court Appointments: Judge Bork and the Politicization of Senate Confirmations (SIU Press 1998) (with N. Vieira); and Agency and Partnership (Emanuel Publishing Corp. 1998). He is also the author of numerous articles in legal publications.

At SIU, Professor Gross has taught the following courses: Legal Profession, Remedies, Agency and Partnership, Corporations, Federal Income Taxation, Interviewing and Counseling, Legal Writing and Evidence. In addition, he has been a visiting professor or adjunct professor at Washington University School of Law, St. Louis University School of Law, Seton Hall University School of Law and the University of San Diego.

Professor Gross is past president of the Southern Illinois Chapter of the ACLU. He is currently on the board of the Jewish Federation of Southern Illinois, Southeast Missouri, and Western Kentucky and is their past president. He has served as a Reporter for the Illinois Judicial Conference and was a member of the Carbondale Elementary School board.
